Okta’s 2018-01 Businesses at Work report reveals fascinating insights into the apps and services companies use. Okta, an identity management provider, analysed authentication and access data from its network of thousands of companies and millions of daily authentications to compile the report.
Microsoft’s Office 365 tops the list as the most popular app, followed by Salesforce and Amazon Web Services (AWS). Google’s G Suite, despite being fourth, shows the highest growth rate. Slack, a team collaboration tool, also shows impressive growth, moving from 8th to 6th place within a year.
The report highlights the increasing use of security tools, with businesses employing an average of 16 off-the-shelf cloud apps. The data also indicates a trend towards app specialisation, with companies choosing specific apps for specific tasks rather than all-in-one solutions.
Finally, the report shows that despite the proliferation of apps, many businesses still use a mix of on-premise and cloud solutions, indicating a slow but steady transition to the cloud.
