Microsoft Teams, the chat-based workspace in Office 365, is now utilised by 200,000 organisations, a significant increase from 125,000 in September 2017. This marks a 60% rise in usage over a six-month period. Microsoft Teams, designed to compete with Slack, is celebrating its first anniversary with the introduction of new features that will be rolled out over the course of the year. These include cloud recording, inline message translation, Cortana voice interactions and background blur on video. The new features aim to enhance meetings and calling experiences. Cloud recording offers one-click meeting recordings with automatic transcription and timecoding, enabling all meeting attendees to search within the transcript. Inline message translation will help in maintaining seamless communication in channels where different languages are spoken. Cortana voice interactions for Teams-enabled devices will facilitate easy set up and initiation of meetings. Background blur on video will help focus on the speaker and not what’s behind them during meetings. Proximity detection for Teams Meetings and mobile sharing in meetings will also be introduced later this year.
