Intentional learning, a concept gaining traction in organisational development, is the focus of a three-pronged approach that encourages individuals to take ownership of their learning journey. This approach, dubbed 3x3x3, is centred around three learning modes, three skills, and three mindsets.

The three learning modes include learning from experience, others, and structured experiences. Learning from experience involves reflecting on past actions, while learning from others entails seeking and accepting feedback. Structured experiences, on the other hand, involve formal training or coaching.

The three skills are reflection, feedback, and experimentation. Reflection involves analysing experiences to gain insights. Feedback means seeking out opinions to improve, and experimentation involves trying out new things and learning from the results.

The three mindsets are growth, self-efficacy, and curiosity. A growth mindset sees challenges as opportunities for growth, while self-efficacy is about believing in one’s ability to succeed. Curiosity, meanwhile, involves maintaining an open mind and a desire to learn.

This 3x3x3 approach is seen as a powerful tool for fostering a culture of learning within organisations. It encourages individuals to take responsibility for their own development, leading to improved performance and job satisfaction.
