Two reports highlight a widespread pause in enterprise adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) due to concerns over security and ethics. The first, from AI security firm Darktrace, reveals that 96% of IT leaders fear AI-powered attacks, while 61% believe such threats are inevitable. Meanwhile, a report from AI ethics advisory firm Fiddler showcases that 93% of AI leaders believe ethical considerations are a significant barrier to AI adoption.
Darktrace’s report, based on a survey of 500 IT decision-makers, indicates that 64% of respondents are holding back from adopting AI due to security concerns. Additionally, 55% anticipate AI will be used to launch damaging cyber-attacks within the next 12 months.
Fiddler’s report, on the other hand, surveyed 200 AI leaders. It found that 85% of respondents believe AI should be regulated. Nearly half (49%) think the government should lead regulation efforts, while 36% believe it should be an industry-led initiative.
Both reports underscore the need for robust security and ethical frameworks to encourage greater enterprise adoption of AI. Despite these concerns, 89% of IT leaders in Darktrace’s survey still believe AI is essential for their organisation’s digital transformation. Similarly, Fiddler’s report highlights that 92% of AI leaders view AI as a competitive advantage.
