Digital twins are successful and attract attention because they give the impression that a complex system can finally be understood, represented, and controlled without approximation. This promise has proven itself in industry, where modeling a physical asset makes it possible to improve its performance without exposing it unnecessarily (Digital twins: what are we really talking about?). But this success has also given rise to a kind of dream, if not a fantasy: if it works for machines, why not for work itself?
