Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has sparked a Twitter feud with Australian billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes. Musk’s recent email to employees, suggesting those not returning to the office could lose their jobs, was criticised by Cannon-Brookes. Musk responded by saying his company, unlike Cannon-Brookes’s, does not outsource jobs to cheaper labour markets.
The exchange began when Cannon-Brookes shared a Guardian Australia article about Musk’s email to Tesla staff. The email stated that Tesla’s work-from-home policy would end in June, and those not returning could be fired. Cannon-Brookes called this a “dick move.” Musk retorted, stating that Atlassian, Cannon-Brookes’s company, outsources to low-cost countries, implying that this is worse than his own directive.
Cannon-Brookes countered, stating that Atlassian has a global team and does not outsource, but hires globally. He also pointed out that Atlassian has been named Australia’s best place to work, unlike Tesla. The exchange ended with Cannon-Brookes suggesting Musk focus on making Tesla a better place to work. Musk did not respond to this final comment.
