OpenAI’s artificial intelligence system, GPT-3, has been utilised to create a Christmas song titled “Christmas Bells Are Ringing.” The AI was fed a dataset of 450 Christmas songs to generate the lyrics. The result was a unique, albeit slightly nonsensical, festive tune.

The song begins traditionally, with references to snowfall and Christmas bells. However, it soon diverts into strange territory, mentioning a “cyborg Santa” and a “hyperdrive sleigh.” The AI even includes the line “Santa’s on his mission, gifts are in his sleigh, he’s got a hyperdrive, powered by Christmas Day.”

The song was then set to music by the team at OpenAI, resulting in a fully AI-created Christmas tune. The end product is a testament to the capabilities of AI in creative fields, despite its peculiar content.

While the song may not become a classic, it certainly provides an interesting example of how AI can be used in creative endeavours. It also raises questions about the potential for AI to generate other forms of media in the future.

This is not the first time GPT-3 has been used in the music industry. Earlier this year, the AI was used to create an entire album, further demonstrating the potential of AI in creative fields.
