The digital divide is slowly closing, according to the Lloyds Bank 2024 UK Consumer Digital Index. However, 10 million workers still lack essential digital skills, with women trailing behind men in their online nous.
Across the UK, just three percent of the population – 1.6 million – are now offline, a huge decrease from the digitally unconnected 5.5 million in 2016. For those still offline, age and employment are the biggest factors: this group are most likely to be 70-79 years old, earn under £35,000, and or be retired or unemployed.
