InfoSum, a UK start-up, is launching its first product, a decentralised big data discovery platform. The aim of the platform is to help companies make sense of their vast data repositories without moving the data. This is a significant advancement since data privacy regulations, such as the EU’s GDPR, have made data handling more complex.

The platform uses a mathematical model to compare data sets and find connections, without the need to pool data in one place. It can handle a wide range of data types, from structured to unstructured, and can even deal with incomplete or ‘dirty’ data.

Nick Halstead, InfoSum’s founder, believes this decentralised approach is the future of big data, as it allows companies to gain insights while respecting privacy rules. The company has raised $5 million in seed funding from investors including Upfront Ventures and IA Ventures.
