Ganesh Bell, Chief Digital Officer at General Electric (GE), discusses the company’s digital transformation and the Internet of Things (IoT) development. Bell highlights the importance of the digital industrial revolution, stating that every industrial company must become a digital industrial company to survive. He explains that GE’s digital strategy focuses on three areas: building a digital platform (Predix), creating applications for industries, and transforming GE into a digital industrial company.

Predix, GE’s cloud-based platform-as-a-service, is designed for industrial data and analytics, aiming to connect machines, data, and people. It helps companies leverage data to improve operational efficiency, reduce downtime, and increase productivity. Predix is a core part of GE’s digital strategy, with the company investing $1 billion in the platform.

GE has also created a new business unit, GE Digital, to consolidate its software and IT capabilities. The unit aims to develop industrial applications that can transform data into actionable insights. GE Digital has already developed several applications, including Asset Performance Management and Brilliant Manufacturing, which help companies optimise their operations.

Finally, Bell discusses GE’s digital transformation, noting that the company is adopting digital technologies across its operations. GE is also training its workforce in digital skills, with over 24,000 employees having completed digital training so far. Bell believes that this digital transformation will enable GE to become a top 10 software company by 2020.
