Microsoft’s Project Cortex, an AI-based solution, has been clarified by the tech giant. Aimed at aiding organisations in managing content, it utilises AI to automatically classify and organise data, making it simpler for employees to find and utilise information. The solution is not designed to replace existing content management systems, but to enhance them, integrating with Microsoft 365 and other tools.

The system’s AI capabilities can identify, categorise and extract data from various sources, including documents, conversations and meetings. This information is then made available in a knowledge network, accessible to employees. Project Cortex also allows for manual tagging of content, ensuring that it is accurately catalogued.

The solution’s privacy and security measures have been highlighted. It adheres to Microsoft 365’s compliance boundaries, ensuring data is not shared beyond the organisation’s set limits. It also respects access permissions, displaying content only to those with the necessary clearance.

Project Cortex’s roll-out is expected in the first half of 2020, with Microsoft planning a phased approach. Initially, it will be available to targeted release customers, with a broader release to follow. Microsoft has also announced a new learning module to help customers understand the capabilities and benefits of Project Cortex.
