Microsoft plans to cease Yammer Enterprise services from 1 January 2017, instead integrating its features into Office 365 Groups. The move is part of a broader strategy to encourage Office 365 adoption and streamline the product suite. Yammer, a social networking service for private communication within organisations, was acquired by Microsoft in 2012. Since then, it has been available as a standalone service or as part of the Office 365 subscription.

The transition will be gradual, starting with the 85% of Yammer users who are already Office 365 subscribers. These users will notice new Office 365 icons appearing in Yammer, and the ability to create and manage their Yammer groups in Office 365. Eventually, all Yammer networks will be managed through Office 365, and Yammer Enterprise will no longer be sold as a standalone service.

Microsoft believes that this integration will provide a more unified and holistic user experience. It will also allow them to focus on the development of Office 365, which has been a significant growth area for the company. The changes are not expected to impact existing Yammer users significantly, as they will still be able to access all their current features and data.
