Microsoft has unveiled Teams, a new chat-based workspace for Office 365 users. Designed as a direct competitor to Slack, Teams integrates with Microsoft’s suite of services, including Skype for video and voice calls, Office for collaboration on documents, and Power BI for analytics and data visualisation. Teams is built on four pillars: chat, a hub for teamwork, customisation options, and security. It supports both persistent and threaded chats to keep everyone engaged and informed. Teams also allows for customisation, with users able to add tabs for frequently used documents and applications. Furthermore, Teams is equipped with robust security and compliance capabilities, featuring data encryption and multi-factor authentication for enhanced security. Teams is now available in preview in 181 countries and in 18 languages. The full version will be available to Office 365 customers in the first quarter of 2017.
