Pluralsight, a technology skills platform, has released a report indicating a significant knowledge gap in artificial intelligence (AI) among executives. The study reveals that 90% of executives lack confidence in their teams’ AI skills. Despite 89% of companies planning to increase AI usage, only 33% of executives believe they have the necessary skills to implement AI effectively.
The report also highlighted that the U.S. and China dominate in AI skills, with the U.K. ranking seventh. The study assessed five key areas: machine learning, neural networks, digital signal processing, genetic algorithms, and computer vision. The U.K. performed particularly poorly in machine learning and digital signal processing, ranking ninth and tenth respectively.
Pluralsight’s CEO, Aaron Skonnard, emphasised the need for companies to invest in upskilling their workforce, warning that those failing to do so risk falling behind. He suggested that organisations should focus on developing AI skills internally, rather than relying on hiring new talent.
The report concludes with a call to action for executives to prioritise AI skills development in order to stay competitive in the rapidly evolving technology landscape.
