SharePoint Communication Sites are now rolling out to Office 365 customers, offering a dynamic, mobile-ready platform for sharing news, reports, statuses and other information in a visually compelling format. The platform boasts a fast, easy-to-use site creation experience, with three initial site designs: Topic, Showcase and Blank. The Topic design is ideal for sharing information such as news, events and other content. The Showcase design is perfect for using photos or images to spotlight a product, team or event. The Blank design allows for creating your own design from scratch.
SharePoint Communication Sites also feature integration with Yammer, the enterprise social network, enabling greater audience engagement. The platform is accessible on the web, on a mobile browser, and in the SharePoint and OneDrive apps. It also allows for easy sharing and tracking of site usage data.
For developers, SharePoint Communication Sites offer new opportunities to leverage SharePoint patterns and practices. Microsoft plans to continue enhancing the platform based on user feedback and needs. The global rollout for Office 365 First Release customers has begun, and is expected to be completed for all customers by the end of August 2017.
