The robots, known as Siemens Spiders, or SiSpis, are part of Siemens’ long-term vision for creating adaptable factories. The autonomous machines can collaborate to accomplish tasks and can even recharge themselves. Each SiSpis is equipped with an onboard camera and laser scanner to create a 3D map of its surroundings, which it uses to navigate and perform tasks. The robots can also communicate with each other, dividing complex tasks amongst themselves to complete the work more efficiently.
SiSpis are designed to be adaptable and can be programmed to perform a variety of tasks, from building structures to painting and inspecting equipment. The robots can also learn from each other, sharing information about the most efficient ways to complete tasks. The long-term goal is to create a factory where humans and robots work side by side, with the robots taking on the more dangerous or monotonous tasks.
