A recent study reveals that half of all organisations are grappling with a digital talent gap, which is inhibiting their digital transformation efforts. The research, conducted by Capgemini and LinkedIn, surveyed over 1,200 people globally and found that 54% of organisations believe the digital talent gap is widening, posing a significant challenge to their transformation ambitions.
The study identifies six key barriers to closing this gap. These include a lack of necessary skills among senior and middle management, a lack of clear digital strategy, and a lack of digital role models. Additionally, the study highlights that many organisations struggle with outdated HR policies and lack of flexibility, which can deter digital talent.
Interestingly, the study reveals that digital talent is not just about technical skills. Digital leaders also need soft skills such as comfort with ambiguity, passion for learning, and customer-centricity. The study further suggests that organisations need to adopt a more holistic approach to talent management, focusing on reskilling and upskilling their workforce, and fostering a digital culture to attract and retain digital talent.
In terms of geography, the study shows that the talent gap is more pronounced in developed nations, with the US, UK, and Germany experiencing the most significant challenges. Conversely, India and Italy are making good progress in closing the gap.
