A new UBS survey reveals a severe and systemic overestimation among enterprises regarding the pace of scaled AI deployment. As of March 2026, only 19% of companies had achieved scaled deployment, advancing just 9 percentage points in two years. A year ago, as many as 84% of surveyed companies expected to reach this benchmark within 12 months, yet only 5% actually did—a gap between expectations and reality that continues to widen. The survey identifies unclear ROI, compliance and regulatory hurdles, surging system integration complexity, and talent shortages as the primary bottlenecks. The report serves as a warning to markets: while underlying AI technology is accelerating, the speed of enterprise organizational transformation and commercial rollout is far slower than imagined, and the divergence between the two warrants investor caution.
