In recent weeks and months, the general experience of using AI in all aspects of life has changed and expanded. People are trying out AI apps as well as large language models in the form of ChatGPT, Claude and others in a variety of situations — especially in a professional context. Many are experiencing a significant improvement in their own work performance, increased efficiency and time savings.
However, these new opportunities are accompanied by completely new challenges on the corporate side. Based on current research findings and expert analyses, I want to highlight how AI is currently changing the modern workplace.

When done right, AI can not only improve short-term productivity of organizations but can also increase their long-term performance by expanding the space of opportunities the organization considers by supporting learning, increasing intellectual diversity, and enhancing organizational culture. That is, it can increase the organization’s collective intelligence. Companies should focus on three elements of collective intelligence: collective memory, collective attention, and collective reasoning. When done right, managers embrace a way of deploying AI so that skills are enhanced, curiosity is nurtured, and communication and coordination are improved.

CIOs are looked to to manage AI adoption across the enterprise, but are they ready to meet the challenge?
Now here’s a thing – amid the tsunami of PR, marketing, hype and assorted information, how much do CIOs actually know about AI? The answer, somewhat to my relief, is – it’s complicated.
According to new global data from Salesforce covering the views of 150 CIOs of organizations with a thousand or more employees, a hefty 84% of respondents believe that AI will be as significant to businesses as the internet. But lessons appear to have been learned from earlier ‘silver bullets’ as 67% say that they are taking a more cautious approach to the emerging tech than they have/do to other technologies. Despite this 61% of CIOs say they are expected to know more about AI than they do. In reality, nine percent believe they know less than their peers at other companies.
